Gerbview, an application that nicely brings together ease of use with advanced functionality, can be used to view, mark up, convert and print Gerber, Excellon, HPGL, HPGL/2, and raster files. With this Software Companions-developed tool, creating layered PDF, DXF, and DWF files becomes a piece of cake.

The system requirements for running the Gerbview application are quite low: 133MHz Pentium processor or better, 64MB of RAM memory or more, 10MB of free disk space, Windows operating system (anything from Windows 95 onward). Modern and even older PCs will have no problems running Gerbview – and you won’t have any problems completing the setup process and getting Gerbview up and running.

The Gerbview interface is fairly easy to figure out. To the left you have the Workbar which allows you to browse your drives and folders. The file loaded into the application is displayed in a large pane to the right – it takes up most of the interface, so it’s not hard to miss. At the top, where they’re usually positioned, there are buttons for various functions the application can perform. It will take you little time to get accustomed to this interface.

Gerbview’s main purpose is to help you visualize your circuit board design. To this end, it allows you to view, mark up, convert, and print Gerber, HPGL, HPGL/2, and raster files. On the application’s feature list, you will also see that it comes with a lot of functionality – query for entity info, measure distances, highlight apertures, mouse-controlled zooming, scaled print, and more. You get a lot of functionality, presented to you in a user friendly interface.

You have 30 days at your disposal to use Gerbview for free for evaluation purposes. Get a license to keep using the application once the trial expires.

Gerbview is a very handy tool for anyone who needs to visualize circuit board designs.

Pros

The system requirements for running Gerbview are quite low. It will take little time to familiarize yourself with the interface. Use Gerbview to view, mark up, convert, and print Gerber, Excellon and HPGL files.

Cons

Free to use for a trial period of 30 days.
